Every year on May 25, we remember a terrible phenomenon that unfortunately remains ever-present: missing children.
In the first four months of 2023 alone, 5,908 minors went missing (1,319 Italian and 4,589 foreign). They were found in 73.84% of cases for Italian children and 31.58% for foreign minors.
These are chilling numbers that remind us how important it is to prevent this phenomenon and to know how to act and what resources are available in case of need. Time is precious and a report made as quickly as possible is crucial to finding those who go missing.
Below are some references and emergency numbers available for reporting and requesting help:
- 112: single emergency number.
- 116000: European hotline for missing children, managed in Italy by Telefono Azzurro.
- 114: SOS childhood emergency.
- GMCN Italy: the Italian website dedicated to missing children, managed by the Central Anti-Crime Directorate – Central Anti-Crime Service of the State Police, which participates in the "Global Missing Children's Network".
